I have never watched Yugioh in my life. It's just, I think I don't find the whole FI thing that enjoyable where you just write down a person's reactions to being in a thing, because it just doesn't lend itself to following the beats of a storyz

You are on a fanfiction forum reading a friend insert fic of a TV series you never watched. The basis of everyone reading the fic is the knowing the general plot of the story to compare. Reading something with the need of prior lore knowledge is crucial to understanding the story. It doesn't feel like a story to you because on your end, plot elements are all over the place.
And not just the anime lore, but the card lore too, which are the stories told in the art of the actual TCG/OCG cards. Basically, you need enough Meta knowledge of both the anime and physical game to enjoy a fic like this.

My head canon is that Zeus wasn't created in both the canon Zexal timeline and the canon Arc-V timeline until after the events of the Numbers/Fusion attack depending on the timeline.
In this AU it might be here, but most people who had it were carded before they can summon it, and/or the heartland trio are saving it for a last resort since it probably takes a lot of Duel Energy to summon.

The point of a FI is that you know the lore/canon story beats, and find joy in how someone else manages to stumble their way into blowing past them or making them much worse with their limited knowledge of the setting.
You don't really come for the story itself, you come to see a trainwreck happen and get surprised by the story that forms along the way or in the aftermath.
